Description

In 1987, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presented Hommage à Ferrari, the first major exhibition dedicated to Enzo Ferrari. Almost forty years later, the catalog of this exhibition is finally released, revisiting this unique event in the history of the brand and the singular career of its creator, Enzo Ferrari. A mythical story told by automotive and design specialists, and illustrated by numerous photographs of iconic car models, as well as never-before-seen archive images.

In 1987 the Fondation Cartier, then based in Jouyen- Josas near Paris, showed a major exhibition in tribute to one of the 20th century’s greatest designers, Enzo Ferrari. Conceived as a global exhibition combining automobiles, design and mechanics, as well as drawings and photographs, Hommage à Ferrari took visitors on a journey through the history of a myth, via the world of motor racing and design, with the presentation of iconic models staged by designer Andrée Putman. The first major exhibition devoted to the automaker since its creation in 1947, Hommage à Ferrari had not been completed with an exhibition catalog.

In 2025, the Fondation Cartier is publishing the catalog of this exceptional event, which marked its history as well as that of the Prancing Horse brand. This book retraces this exhibition through numerous exhibition views, photographs and previously unpublished archive documents. Under the direction of Philippe Séclier, who writes a long text revealing the genesis and production of this exhibition, and thanks to the major contributions of Francesca Picchi (essay), Jean-Louis Moncet (portrait) and Jean Todt (interview), this book pays a new and vibrant tribute to Ferrari, and to this legendary exhibition.
