BranD #72

This issue is a toolkit for improvisation because each designer’s creative process is designed as a folder, together with a bookmark. Combining 12 bookmarks in order, the pieces become a line drawing work originally created by Chris Harnan @chrishchris . Then, it is your moment to create in any way you like! The toolkit also includes a limited edition sticker to boost your inspiration.

In this issue, we decide to do something different, that is focusing on the creative process of experimental design, rather than only showing the result of work as in the past. This issue explores the experimentation of design from a practical perspective, and tries to help readers subvert conventional design and find their own visual language step by step. Thanks to the creators’ generous support, they search through boxes and computers in order to collect data of their projects in different stages, such as sketches and drafts, various mediums for experiments, and revisions during the process… Flipping through this issue, readers will gain an intensive learning experience as if they are participating in a series of workshops, and will be touched by the enthusiasm and fun of the creators while they are completing each step. Thus, the theme of this issue is “Design as a Workshop.”

Whether content or design, this issue aims to encourage everyone to create with their hands right away. Yet remember, any creative methods are just for reference, and what can’t be replaced is the textures created by yourself! Besides the commissions, we hope that every designer can create as boldly as a child, and be his or her own designer!
