Out of Time

Fifty of the UK’s boldest contemporary poetic voices respond to the climate crisis. We are out of time in so many ways. Global heating is projected to reach 1.5 °C between 2030 and 20521, a temperature threshold that, if crossed, will include devastating droughts, precipitation de?cits, tropical cyclones and irreversible loss of ice sheets, amongst other cataclysms. If we head up to 2 °C, it’s estimated that 13% of global terrestrial land will undergo dramatic transformation. Now is the time to assess our actions and to read, write and share: to pass on the most important message of all. The empathy of the reader cannot be understated, nor can the potential of a single poem. This anthology engages with the power of language to ask questions, subvert and expand reader perception. Out of Time is a complex love letter to the earth; it is a manifesto to the craft and power of poetry; it is a call to action.
