The first book published by West Country Modern is a photographic essay on agricultural architecture with a foreword by writer Mark Hooper.
Via the simple monochrome capture of various barn styles on the Dorset/ Devon borders the reader is challenged to reconsider these anonymous structures as ultimate extensions of modernist practice, reducing design down to pure functionalism.
The shots were compiled over a 12 month period by local image maker Jethro Marshall. They are the work of an enthusiast, rather than romantic; the structures devoid of the bucolic trappings that dominate the usual presentation of rural life.
